One Down

After, the hectic weekend that include it a trip to Toledo, running all around Madrid covering the UEFA championship and staying up all night to write plus edited the story we got good news.
Our story got published in the Boston Globe. Yes sir, we were able to get the first story out of our group on the globe.
First, I want to give props to the group I worked with especially Danny. The kid was a straight animal late Saturday early Sunday morning. He took the anchor for the story and went HAM (if you don’t know don’t worry) on it. I was so impressed with his focus and available to get bang it out. Next, I want to thank Julia and Ian who were out there busting their tails to get coverage, interviews and photos of the scenes. I had a great time working with Julia expect for the bar episode and it was an experience I will remember for a lifetime.
I also want to give a special shout out to Dylan and Geoff Hempel who helped bring this whole thing together. Geoff showed up about 6 in the morning and went absolutely beast mode on the edits. He sat their like a trooper and once again banged it out not to mention a pretty funny guy as well. Dylan of course did his usually magic and first helped with the edits then got the package together. I see why he is attractive hire for a company or fire. He’s wise beyond his years and does some amazing work.
Last but not by far not least is our professional photographer Maria. I know she’s not a professional but when you see her work you would argue different. She shot some foods pictures for me on my tapa piece and let me tell you WOW. You can see that she definitely has talent in the photography field. She provided some great shots for the piece.
Well, I have completed two of my goals. One to cover a major sporting event while in Spain and two to get a piece in the Boston Globe. I can’t express how happy I’m about this achievement. Once again thank you everyone involved in making this possible.

First Post

Finally, the day is here and Spain is only a few hours away. Last night as I put the final touches on for my trip it sunk in, less than 24 hours to Spain. Honestly, I got a little nervous and a lot sad. I am extremely sad to leave my family but more importantly my pups. Everyone else understands that I’m leaving and coming back but the pups don’t realize they won’t see me again for over a month. I’m going to make sure to get them a special gift along with others while there.

Now, that I got my butterflies out the way lets talk about this terrific opportunity and all the fun adventures I will encounter while abroad. First, I will have a chance to experience soccer from a European view. Soccer in Europe is king and by far their number one sport with the World Cup ( in Brazil) kicking off in June their will be a lot of excitement in the air. I’ll get  a chance to report on the atmosphere/emotion along with the expectations for the Spain national team through the eyes and voice of the people. Spain are the defending World Cup champions (2010) and currently have the number one ranking in the world. I also get a soccer bonus while in Madrid. The Union of European Football Association (UEFA) champions league final will feature Real Madrid CF versus Club Atle`tico de Madrid. UFEA champions league final is similar to the Super Bowl for Americans. The game takes place on May 24 in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Unfortunately, I will not able to attend for financial reasons, tickets are like 1000 euros, but I will be in Madrid when the game takes place. Definitely, this could be a huge story with a little history in the making.

Last, My original plan was to focus on strictly sports but as time got closer to leave I made to the decision to also cover food while in Spain. I’m not sure what angle to go with yet, like maybe a restaurant review or possibly guide of restaurant according to price and quality. I going to jugging around a few ideas but this is one the articles I want write about. Well that is it for now. I will let you know how the flight and my interactions were.
